A Look Inside Wooden Camera’s Los Angeles Store

Wooden Camera has made a name for itself providing the industry high quality camera support gear for an affordable price. With their recent move to Los Angeles, CA, the home of production studios big and small, Wooden Camera has further cemented themselves in Hollywood’s film making community. We spoke with store manager Michael Millichamp about Wooden Camera’s move to the neighborhood, and how it affects their customers.

Millichamp explains that the move was in part to help a large portion of their customer base in Southern California feel more secure when purchasing equipment for high priced cameras. “Sometimes it is scary purchasing stuff directly online without being able to physically see what your camera looks like with our gear on it. So we wanted to have a store front where people could come in, build out their cameras, try it on…and find the perfect solution for their rig”. This is something they’ve accomplished at Wooden Camera, with tables showcasing nearly every rig they have, as well as prep tables where they’ll help you outfit your camera.

A “toy store for cinema”, as Millichamp puts it, is certainly what Wooden Camera has established, as Wooden Camera’s store is stocked with everything on their website (in limited quantity of course), giving you the chance to sample every option they have. Making a point to cater to nearly every camera, Millichamp and his team will even coordinate with customers to build custom rigs to the best of their ability. If for some reason they don’t have a specific part in store, they’ll even ship it overnight from their home base in Dallas, TX to the store. And if what you’re looking for doesn’t exist? “If it’s something we don’t make or [customers] need, we can do custom orders. But we’re very open to suggestion. So if it’s something that we’re getting a lot of requests for, we’ll put our team together and come up with a design for that item.”
