Hello Christoph, thanks for your questions! I’ve reached out to Akitio, and here was their response:

      1) The Thunder2 Storage-AV uses two pcs of M.2 PCIe SSDs. It is not regular SATA. We did not have a RAID controller in this product and thus relies on the SW RAID. Please refer to the web page: http://www.akitio.com/information-center/about-software-hardware-raid on which we provided the instruction to set up the SW RAID in different OSs.

      2) The SATA-Go can take two SATA SSDs, each of which can be connected by the cable (we only included one cable in the product, though). Please note that, however, the eSATA interface does not carry power. One end of the cable has the USB connector. You would need to connect that USB to a power source (either the USB interface of your Mac, or a battery pack, or the iPAD charger, etc). If you plan to use two SSDs, you’d need to find two power sources. Although it is possible to set up RAID for these two SSDs, we do not encourage such configuration because each of SSDs uses an independent power source and is easily removed. When this happened it would corrupt the RAID.

I hope that answers your questions!
