DaVinci Resolve & Fusion El Capitan Compatible – Other NLE’s…Not So Much

Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 12 and Fusion 8 are free of the numerous bugs plaguing Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, Sibelius, Eucon and Isis with the new Mac OS update v10.11, El Captian.

Blackmagic Design has informed us that the current shipping version of DaVinci Resolve (12.0.1) works with OS X El Capitan. They do suggest checking your hardware drivers to make sure they support the recent Apple OS update. The newest version of Fusion 8 is fully supported.

Adobe and Avid however have not managed to avoid a wave of bugs and issues within their programs. These bugs seem to range from slow performance and file load to graphical glitches and full on program crashes. Both Adobe and Avid have released statements regarding the issue:

AVID: “There are open bugs and known issues with the current shipping versions of some of our products that will need to be addressed prior to qualification.”

Adobe: “We are aware of some issues users of Premiere Pro may experience after upgrading to OS X El Capitan. We are working hard to resolve these issues in an forthcoming release but currently recommend users remain on OS X 10.10.x.”

Comments on Adobe’s statement have puzzled out that switching the Mercury playback engine setting to CUDA or software only has temporarily fixed some people’s crashing issues, suggesting an issue with OpenCL. Still, both adobe and Avid have yet to release any further concrete statement or timeline of when their respective programs will be updated.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for a fully working NLE not plagued by these issues then we encourage you to check out Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve 12, which very recently evolved into a full fledged NLE.
